Close to the Turntable - Week of 1/9/09
With the recent resurgence of vinyl records more retail outlets are carrying them including to our complete delight our local grocery/ department store, Fred Meyer. Greg could not pass up the display presented right at the entrance to the electronics section (not a permanent fixture), the items on today's list are Jimi Hendrix and The White Stripes. Today's vinyl is thicker and heavier than in the past and the remastered recordings are of a much higher quality and therefore what used to be on one album is now on two. Greg has found that the sound is pristine. The cover artwork, sleeves and inserts are all the same reproduced from the originals. The reintroduction of vinyls of old recordings and new music has really injected a fresh interest in music.

That's so cool! I knew that vinyl was coming back into fashion since it's "retro," but I didn't realize that they were making them higher quality and spanning LPs. That is really cool. I love vinyl records and still get out some of my favorites now and then. Just have a hard time finding record needles!
