The iPad changes a life

Blog update/ edit: If you get Blog posts by email, you're getting this a second time as I had to edit the size of the video on the Blogger site itself. Thanks.

Technology is truly amazing. And it's heartwarming to see that even the older among us that don't normally embrace new fangled things will find a purpose and joy in their use.

My Birthday Cupcakes

I found out about the Alaska Cake Studio recently and have been wanting to go check them out. Since today was my birthday... on a Monday... I was wishing that I had my act together I would have ordered something to take to work. Well, I mentioned the Cake Studio to a co-worker today and they were so intrigued that she went over there on her lunch break. Next thing I know I have my cupcakes I've been obsessing about... for my birthday! It's great to work with such nice people. Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.alaskacakestudio.com/Default.aspx

We're going to celebrate my birthday further by going out to eat later this week. Well, the occasion is Dana being in town from Fairbanks. We'll meet up with Julia, Scott, Marco and Becky. But it's still my birthday week! Our personal plans to go out to eat just the two of us have been postponed for now... http://marxcafe.com/homepage.html

Local Wasilla Guy - Christmas Nut

There is a family that lives on the other side of Wasilla that decorates their house and does a spectacular light display set to music. I found out about this from my physical therapist last week. We have not had the chance to go check them out... but thought this tidbit would be fun to share. Here is their website Christmas in AK. Here is an explanation from the "mad scientist" himself from his website for why he does this,

I have been a Christmas light junkie for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Southern California, our family tradition every Christmas Eve was to go look at the beautiful Christmas lights... Those were memories that I can vividly remember and wanted to create with my daughter.

So after the 1st year living in our new house, I decided I wanted to kick it up a notch. I wanted to be that house people brought their children to and to help Alaskan families make memories for years to come. My wife Karen didn't quite understand my fascination or the power of the lights until she saw our daughters face light up when they turned on. In that moment, she became a believer.

The second reason is actually really a simple one. This is my way of giving back to the community and saying thanks. It truly is amazing the power that those little lights have and the smiles that they bring to the faces of children of all ages. That is my reward.

There are videos of the light shows from 2007 on the website if you're curious and would like a taste. All the donation proceeds from his light show do go to good cause - disabled veterans.

David Letterman - Top Ten List on Sarah Palin

I found out today that the Late Show with David Letterman did one of his famous Top Ten Lists on VP candidate Governor Sarah Palin. It showcases prominent members of the Wasilla business community, having been sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of course. I thought it was amusing, see what you think. I have attached the link to the CBS page here where you can read the list, but you can actually download the video (and endure a several second commercial). I suggest you download the video, Dave Letterman's commentary is priceless - as it always is! Top Ten Surprising Facts About Sarah Palin presented by residents of Wasilla, Alaska

New Simon's Cat video

Greg will commiserate with Simon in this video. It's a battle of wills every night when the cat wants to lay on Greg's knees and Greg would prefer she lay somewhere else. She's very persistent. It's a cute video.

My Sister Mindi featured in Film Review for "Caregiver"

To give credit where credit is due, this video is found on Manny's movie review site - Manny the Movie Guy - he is originally from the Philippines and the lead actress, Sharon Cuneta, is a megastar there, we'll take his word for it. NOW, to see Mindi you have to either endure the entire video or FFWD to the end. She is in the very last scene. It's worth it, she's the doctor, playfully whacking Manny on his knee (for the reflex) and making him giggle!

Old Photo from the Past

Well, this is to show that my parents had a sense of humor, though tainted by the sixties clearly! This is before I was even a sparkle in my mother's eye, by the way. If you can't read what's on the t-shirts (you can blow them up by clicking on the picture)... my mom's reads "dingbat" and my dad's reads "meathead". Really? I wonder if it was a bet, I better ask.

Simon's Cat - So Funny!

This is the 2nd one I've seen in a series of animated cartoons by Simon I would assume about a cat he has known!! They are hysterical. Click the arrow in the control bar to watch it in this window... make sure you have sound, it adds to the humor.

Not For the Faint of Heart

Here's a little something you may not know about Greg... he loves an obscure comic strip called Red Meat. It is not for those that are readily offended or need to be easily amused either. Here's the link - Red Meat - enjoy?
