Introducing Quinn

As you know we were planning to get a puppy some time around the new year. In August we were surprised by a call from the breeder asking us to take Quinn. She wanted him to come to our home because he would get the attention he needs. We did take some time to mull it over, but have enjoyed having hime in our lives. He's so well trained, did not require potty training, and is already leash trained. He's a joy to have around. Here's a few pictures you may not have seen on Facebook.

This is the first day that we had Quinn, playing fetch.

Happy dog after a hearty game of fetch.

Quinn was about to get groomed, brushed in this photo.

He's such a good dog.  Ready for winter!

Home renovation

Greg widened doorways as well as installed new oak trim/crown, door frames and cherry doors in a craftsman style. Greg did all the renovations himself.  This has helped tremendously with accessibility.

And of course the visit from Mindi, Scott, and little Alex

What a good time we had! Alex is such a cutey. Quinn loved having a little guy that dropped food under his chair. The cat wasn't as impressed she didn't seem to care for the attention.

At the zoo. Self portrait.

At Middle Way Cafe for lunch.

Alex is a good eater.

June 2011 Happenings

The parents came to visit. We didn't do much, but did have a good time together. The big adventure was a day trip into Anchorage. Here are a few photos during our time together:

Beecher's cheese
There's a company out of Seattle, WA that's named Beecher's. They sell artisanal cheese and crackers.

A must: brunch at Snow City Cafe.
Somehow my parents had not been to Snow City Cafe yet, even though they've visited a number of times. I think they enjoyed it as much as we do. Yum!

The "Habitat" art installation.
A locally controversial, but interesting piece of art.

We spent the afternoon here.
It's hard to believe but this was my first trip to the Museum. I particularly enjoyed the Smithsonian Arctic Research Center exhibit. We also spent a lot of time in the Imaginarium Discovery Center playing with the hands-on science experiments.

First oriental poppy bloom of the summer.
It seems that the flowers are blooming later this year than usual. I have two buds on my peony plant, but  I've heard unless ants crawl on the buds and do their "thing" (whatever that is) they won't bloom.

Fun with Family

It is so great to have family in town. Mindi and Scott came through Alaska on their way to visit parents in other far flung locales before heading to Niger. It's always so fun to have them here.

Breakfast at the Snow City Cafe before spa treatments at Allure Day Spa. Thanks Greg!

Waiting for the Tram at Alyeska Resort. We headed up the mountain to dinner at Seven Glaciers Restaurant.

Confirming our reservation...

salad course...

entree course... beef and alaskan king crab...

Greg and Scott's dessert of Pistachio Chocolate layer cake.... yum!

my dessert of Triple Creme Brulees...

the view from the mountain of the ski area...

yep, that's where we were...

posing in front of the restaurant's tree...

and... yesterday I was presented with an early Christmas present for all of us to enjoy...

that's right... the Beatles Rock Band... we spent a fun couple hours fumbling our way through the Beatles repertoire...

this morning at breakfast Kitty was the center of attention.
