Evening Drive

We had several hours to kill last Thursday evening before the Jewel concert. We could have gone to see a matinee movie, but instead decided to drive down the coast, Turnagain Arm, and enjoy the nice evening and get some fresh air.
We stopped at Beluga Point, but didn't see any whales.

Up high on the cliffs behind us we did see a herd of dall sheep.

Further down the road the landscape beckoned me to take a picture. (Not too bad for an iPhone)

We decided to drive all the way into Girdwood expressly for a box of famous cinnamon rolls from the Bake Shop. We were still debating dinner options and checked availability at Alyeska Resort's Seven Glaciers, but to go there we will have to plan further in advance. This is the restaurant at the top of the mountain that requires a tram ride. It would have been a beautiful evening for an elegant dinner. We drove back into town with our fragrant cinnamon rolls and ate at the Namaste Shangrila, a Nepali/ Himalayan restaurant that I had heard nothing but good things about, but had not eaten at yet. It was delicious and the staff/ owners were welcoming as if we were family. We left there and got to the Atwood Concert Hall in time to get settled and comfortable before the concert started. The concert turned out to be quite the family affair. Jewel was truly delightful and we enjoyed the whole experience, but were glad to get home after a very long day.
