Local Site - State Park

Today, we decided to drive up and snoop around on a self-guided tour of the Independence Mine State Historical Park located at the top of the valley at the end of Hatcher Pass Road. We were given a special tour of Bunkhouse 2 by a volunteer who was painting the building as part of its renovation and upkeep. He is part of the Friends of State Parks, Mat-Su who are trying to recover lost artifacts from the mine buildings. Over the years, as the buildings fell into disrepair, well meaning visitors and locals took things from the buildings, in some cases to keep them safe. Click on the post Title to be re-directed to the Park's website.
